The most well known of San Francisco's numerous pedestrian streets is that section of Filbert Street between Montgomery and Battery streets on the steep eastern slope of Telegraph Hill - the Filbert Steps. This pastoral enclave, which includes the cross streets Darrell Place and Napier Lane and the nearby Greenwich Steps, is dotted with cottages that are testament to the bittersweet challenge of cottage living.

Today.
This day.
Right here.
Begins what I said I was going to do months ago.
And since it will be a whole ass saga. Take my hand, it's an expensive ride but you will witness for free.
What's this ride you might ask?
Well of course,
It's painting Garran Crowe using genuine Afghan Lapis Lazuli. 💎
Because he deserves it. Ain't no budget when we are talking about my favourite character.

In my knowledge this is the only attempt / tutorial on this subject.
Not oil paints and minis this is common.
But historical pigments used on minis.
And I did search. Trust me, If there was it would have made my life a lot easier. But let's move on.

Do you see this blue. This is Lapis. And this will be on my mini when this saga ends.
Mark my words.
Preparations 💎
Can't win a war without a battle plan.
And to make this more interesting I will put the price of each item so we can all look at how much this costs to do.
So what did I pay to paint a cape on a single miniature?
Refined Linseed Oil 75ml - 14€
Liquin 75ml - 6€
Sansodor 75ml - 5€
Isopropyl Alcohol 1lt - 11 €
Sable Bright Brush no2 - 8€
Sable Round Brush no0 - 4€
Sable Filbert Brush no2 - 9€
Michael Harding Ultramarine Blue - 9€
Michael Harding Scarlet Lake - 9€
Michael Harding Titanium White 2 - 9€
Michael Harding Lapis Lazuli (Afghan) - 140€
Total score - 224€
And before someone thinks.
Aint no way you did that.

Yes I did.
Sanity is for the weak.

The experiments before the main show phase. You didn't really think I was going to take a brush and go to town. Did you?

The limits were tasted.
The application was tested.
The flow.
Was tested.
Did we have duds?
I mean, duh.
But every failure of paper is success on the mini. I will not go detail cause that's boring.
Mini. I keep saying but where is the man the myth the legend himself?
Well.
Today.
I did the first layer.

Base colors applied.
Now it's the waiting game we will have to play before the second one.
Ah yes, oil colors my beloved and their slow drying times.
It does look incredibly glossy, shiny like a freshly oiled up body builder before a competition.
But.
What I have so say so far is that.
These paints feel different.
I don't know how to describe it.
Maybe I will find the words in the next chapter.
So.
The adventure ends here. For now...
God I am excited about this.
And if after all those trials and tribulations this experiment is a success, I will be making a tutorial on this.
Step by step and all.
I promise and I wish. 🤞🏻

//New Girl//-part 2
*TW are the same as last part, so please read part 1 for the TW, thank you!*
*❀❁❀*☆◉✪◊˚* *˚◊✪◉☆*❀❁❀*
“I think we’re gonna get along just fine, you and I.” Doug returns your statement with a wide smile, as you both step inside your home, your black cat, Monet coming to greet you.
You squat down to pet her, as she reciprocates with tiny meows and purrs. She loves it when you come home.
“So this is your place? It’s so…creative.” Doug says, admiring your posters and vinyls on the walls. You’re a bit of a funky gal, always loving the weird and peculiar.
“Awe, thanks. Anything that fits my personality comes home with me haha.” You respond, standing up straight again, heading for the kitchen to prep dinner.
“So like your crazy pink couch?” Doug asks with a laugh, as you feel your cheeks blush a bit.
“Oh definitely the crazy pink couch.” You roll your sleeves up before throwing on your apron, tying it neatly behind your back.
“Don’t feel shy or anything. Please make yourself comfortable.” You gesture to the sofa and recliner, letting him decide which one he’d like best.
“Thanks, (Y/N).” Doug responds, taking a seat on your sofa, placing his hands in his lap.
“So…how long have ya been in the cartoon business?” You ask, keeping your gaze on cutting an onion, not wanting to hurt yourself.
“Ah, a few years now. I started on Rocko’s Modern Life. I play Filbert.” He says, doing the voice as you giggle, keeping your gaze on the knife in your hand.
“You’re hilarious, Doug.” You say, taking the flat side of your knife to scrape your diced onion into a pot, sitting it and your cutting board in the sink as you place your pot on the stove.
“Why thank you. What about you? How long have you been in the business for?” You pause momentarily, looking at him, your hands resting on the edge of the counter in front of you.
“Ah…not as long as you. Working at Nick, it’s actually my first professional job in the field.” You respond, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Doug sees your embarrassment, before chuckling lightly to himself.
“There’s no need to worry. I’d never judge. Just know, if you ever need help at work, or need advice, I can help with what I can if I’m not doing my voicing.” Doug says, as you dust yourself off, washing vegetables and dicing meat.
“Ah, that’s a kind gesture. Thanks.” You smile, putting everything else in the pot before washing your hands. “Need anything? Thirsty maybe?”
Doug’s expression shifts as his gaze meets yours, scanning your eyes and features, before ultimately nodding at the gesture. You nod, collecting a glass from the cabinet, pouring some wine you had set aside before brining it to him.
“Giving me alcohol? I gotta drive home, yknow.” Doug laughs, raising a brow at you before taking a sip.
“Who said you were going home?” You blurt out, before realizing what you had said before ultimately hiding your face in your hands.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I’m such a moron. I can’t believe I said that out-loud.” You ramble, feeling the heat from the blush radiating onto the palms of your hands.
Out of nowhere, you feel his hands lightly roam onto your waist, his lips brushing against your lower ear.
“And who said I wouldn’t like that?” Doug whispers, causing your heart to beat faster than it ever has before.
“Look at me, (Y/N).” Doug says, his hands leaving your waist as you look up to face him, his gaze glowing over you.
“W-what? You don’t mean that…” you whispers a nervous laugh escaping your lips as Doug tilts your chin up to get a better view of your face.
“Oh, but you see, I do mean it. I know today was your first day, but I couldn’t keep my mind off of you after we met this morning outside your office. I even doodled you in my sketchbook while we waited for our voicing sessions. “
And that’s all it takes for you.
Without thinking, again, your lips crash onto his, no hesitation, as you feel his hands wrap around you once more, embracing the kiss in return. His grip on you is tight, the tips of his fingers burying deep into your sides, as he pulls away, breathing hard, yet not letting you go.
“You’re…you’re incredible. In so many ways than one.” Doug pants, his eyes staring deeply into yours.
“You are as well.” You mumble, taking a deep breath before looking back down at his lips, eager for more.
“Shall we take this somewhere more..intimate?” Doug asks, his hand interlocking with yours as you nod eagerly, unable to find any words to express how badly you want this.
“Lead the way then, my sweet.” He says as you lead him to your room, your heart pounding in anticipation.
You both enter, the light dim from your lamp, the light dust collecting on the shade, the bulb underneath close to dying out. You shut the door, locking it for extra security before turning back to Doug, your arms behind your back, your face flushed with excitement.
“So…what are we gonna do now?”
»» ──────ஓ๑♥๑ஓ ────── ««
*end of part 2! Part 3 is gonna be intense so I hope you all are ready for that. 🤗 Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this part, and as promised, here it is. Stay tuned for part 3!

"Go and ask your mom where's she's put it," said Charlie. "I can't. She gets really angry if I wake her up on Sunday morning." Benjamin began to bite his lip. Luckily before Benjamin could get too upset,
this book is less Midnight For Charlie Bone and more Concern For Benjamin Brown. I know his parents aren't actually abusive or anything but every word I read abut Ben's home life makes me so sad.
"Bring the case up here," said Benjamin, kneeling as close as he dared. Charlie was already trying to fit the first key into the lock. "I think I'll do it down here," he said. "You never know what might come out of it."
They're like 10 and 11 so I understand why their decision making isn't the best, but I still have to wonder why Charlie would be willing to trap himself in a basement with anything that comes out. Take it to the backyard or a park or something.
A woman stood on the step. She had black hair and she wore a dark, sleek-looking coat. Although she'd been half-hidden by an umbrella the last time he saw her, Benjamin had a very good idea who she was. He recognized the red boots. It was one of Charlie's Yewbeam aunts.
Venetiaaaa
"Really?" The aunt raised a long black eyebrow She wasn't smiling anymore. "How strange. He said he was coming to see you." "No, he didn't," said Benjamin. "Oh, and how would you know?" She had lost every ounce of her sweetness. "Because he'd be here if he had," said Benjamin, without a moment's hesitation.
Props to Ben for that one, very clever.
Benjamin watched his friend dash through the gate without bothering to look either way He was bound to be caught by that horrible aunt.
"Maybe I've fooled her," muttered Charlie. He ran up to Filbert Street, turned the corner, and "Got you!" said a voice. Aunt Venetia sank her long nails into Charlie's shoulder.
"Well done, Venetia. One needs young legs to catch a villain." "Villain?" protested Charlie. He glanced at Aunt Venetia's red boots. Her legs weren't so very young. She was cunning, that was all.
That dastardly Venetia, and her cunning trick of... Charlie not looking where he's going. Damn her to hell!
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Charlie. He refused to answer any more questions and eventually Grandma Bone gave up.
That said, Charlie knows the golden rule of being interrogated by the cops Grandma: shut the fuck up.
He didn't find Maisie on the doorstep; instead he found a boy with a twinkling sort of face. He was a little taller than Charlie, his hair was a bright shiny brown, and his eyes almost the same color.
Fidooooo
"Not many,” said Fidelio. "I don't know you all. Some of you are actually talented as well as endowed. What can you do, by the way?"
Btw it sure is um. interesting. that all the Good Kids (aside from Charlie) are the double talented geniuses while the Bad Kids are all apathetic to or shitty at the arts. Like it's not that deep but it's kinda annoying.
That afternoon Charlie set to work on the papers Fidelio had left with him. He soon realized it would be easier to learn the notes while he was sitting at the piano, but he had only pressed a few keys when Grandma Bone burst in, demanding to know why he was making such a racket.
In the evenings Grandma Bone allowed Charlie to open the piano and play the notes Fidelio had given him to memorize. But one day he forgot. He was so hungry he went to the kitchen and began eating bread and butter. After a few bites his head sank to the table and he fell asleep. He woke up to find Grandma Bone holding his head up by his hair. "Music, Charlie!" she barked at him. "No supper until you've done your music."
holy shitttt Grizelda really is just looking to be mad at anything Charlie does
He sat back and, folding his arms across his chest, he murmured, "If my father were here he could teach me. I suppose he was the last person to play this piano properly." Grandma Bone was about to walk away but, all at once, she said, "Your father had a grand piano. It stood in the center of a large, bright room. The only things in the room were the piano and Lyell, your father. Through the long windows there was a view of the lake, but your father never looked at it. He gazed at his music while his fingers found the notes. And he would cast his spell." “And then what happened?" Charlie asked bravely. He could almost hear the click in Grandma Bone as she snapped out of her reverie. "He broke the rules, Charlie. That's what happened. Beware it doesn't happen to you."
This might be the nicest thing Grandma Bone says in this series.
But Maisie said his gift should be used, for fun if nothing else. Eventually. she persuaded Charlie to listen in on a photo of her favorite film stars: Gregory Morton and Lydia Smiley.
Google says Gregory Morton is real, but not Lydia Smiley. Were they both supposed to be fake??
Charlie scurried upstairs to his room, leaving Maisie and Grandma Bone shouting insults at each other. He was about to sit at his desk when he caught sight of Benjamin crossing the road. Charlie waved and opened his window. "What's going on?" called Benjamin. "I haven't seen you for days. I keep ringing your bell but no one will let me in." Charlie lifted the black file. "I've had five hundred questions to do," he told Benjamin. "Only two hundred to go now, and I get a free weekend. How's the you-know-what?" "Bad," said Benjamin. "It's still making a noise. One of your horrible aunts came around. She was pretending to be collecting for charity but I knew her. She was just like the other one, only older." "You didn't let her in?" asked Charlie anxiously. “No. Runner gave his killer growl and she left." "Good old Runner. I've got to get back to work now, Ben." Charlie gave a huge sigh. "See you on Friday when I've finished the questions."
Ok. And Grandma Bone didn't hear them shouting at each other about the case? Guess she and Maisie were really going at it, huh?

Hello I am a random tumblr user
In totally random passing conversation I have heard the tale of the Walnut Man
Please can we have him
Please 🌦️
🌦️come one come all to where we began
where to understand you needn't be a scholar
you might know it as the walnut man
but it is also called Sold to Ryan Erzahler
(Dylan pov)
I'm not like the other boys. I don't play sports and I like music. I also get bullied at school by that jock Jacob! (A/N: no hate to Jacob this is just 4 the fic)
One day, when I was doing physics homework in my room, I heard my step mom shout from downstairs.
"Go away your not my real mom!" I shouted annoyedly
"Come downstairs now or I will sell Schrödinger" she screamed angrily.
"ok fine" I said passively.
I threw my chestnut locks into a messy bun (A/N: he grew his hair out) and walked downstairs. My step mom rolled her eyes at me. "I have sold you, come meet your new owner." She sneered dismissively. My hazelnut orbs filled with tears until they looked at the walnut man with pecan-colored eyes. "Hey babe." he growled sexily.
I swooned and he caught me in his buff, brazil-nut-colored arms. My macadamia-toned skin blushed peanut but I was too shy and backed away from his beautiful filbert lips. He obviously wanted our tongues to battle for dominance.
I got out my physics book instead and started reading it.
(Ryan pov)
I grabbed the mayonnaise boy and dragged him out of the house. I want him like when you really want to eat a cookie but mom said no. But this time... step mom said yes. His locks are the color of severely burnt parsnips and his orbs are just like flattened chocolate chips.
Suddenly, a group of jocks showed up. My beautiful sour cream uke was scared. I had to protect him.
(Dylan pov)
Jacob showed up with his lackeys Nick and Kayden (A/N: this is Kaitlyn I genderbent her for the story!).
"Prepare............ for pain!" he said menacingly, looking at me with an evil stare like Voldemort.
"N-n-n-n-no!" I shouted scaredly.
Suddenly, the hickory nut man ran in and throat punched all three of them with gingko nut fists in the blink of an eye and they were all on the floor!
"T-t-thank you." I stuttered impressedly at the oysternut American. He grabbed my throat romantically with Saba nut hands. Suddenly, I felt sick and turned the shade of a pistachio nut........
"Baby, what happened!" he snarled possessively.
"S-sir," I cried slenderly, "Kayden poisoned me yesterday and it just kicked in!"
"I will find the antidote" he swore solemnly.
I looked up at his handsome gabon nut face and his water caltrop colored hair. "Why are you doing all this for me?"
"You aren't just someone I bought... I know a secret... You're also.............. my fated mate."
I gasped and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
Then, I remembered something.........
(Ryan pov)
"I reject you!" the delicate boy screamed delicately at me.
I fell to the ground. My lungs burned like a fire. I coughed... and a red spider lily came out of my mouth.
"Y-you h-h-have hanahaki disease!" the buttered noodles colored boy exclaimed terrifiedly.

Fennec's Confectionary ♡ General Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
♡ About the business: A small, relatively well hidden street corner confectionary and bakery that emanates warmth and mouth watering smells from early in the morning to late in the evening. Originally a family business rooted in Pennsylvania, Fennec’s has just recently appeared in Saintes along with the arrival of its newest owner, Piper Allegheny. Despite the change in location, Piper’s proud to say she still follows the centuries old coveted Allegheny family recipes. Boasting a wide variety of baked goods, unique candies, and specialty coffee brews prepared fresh each and every day, Fennec’s offers sugary treats that are sure to sweeten any supernatural’s senses. ♡ History: The Alleghenys were a long-standing familiar bloodline with reputations as resourceful and wise tradespeople. During the early 1700's, old Roe Allegheny was the first of his lineage to finally set down permanent roots, exchanging his caravaneer lifestyle for a small slice of land in Pennsylvania. He and his wife, a human named Edith, turned to farming as a means of income and found good profits from their work- enough so to turn their home into an inn only a stone's throw away from the nearest town. It quickly became something of a safe haven for travelers of all sorts to seek shelter, drinks, and home cooked meals at. It wasn't just the hospitality that made the Allegheny Inn so popular however. Edith had a way with baked goods that alone had customers forming lines at the inn's doors in the early mornings. Gingerbread, cream filberts, eclairs and more- Edith's recipes were the inn's secret weapon.
Roe and Edith's only son Fennec, born in the late 1700's, continued to build upon the family legacy long after his parents passed. The young familiar successfully kept the inn in steady business before his first troubles arose around 1855. The county sheriff William Magill had recently opened subtle investigations into numerous rumors of the inn being a front for supernatural beings seeking refuge in the town’s shadows. The rumors were all true of course- Fennec had started keeping tabs on any other supernaturals that frequented the area, often helping them flee into Toronto to evade bounty hunters and the likes. Despite this, it seemed Fennec was always one step ahead of the sheriff and his pesky officers.
By 1859, Fennec had consistently outsmarted sheriff Magill and his protégé shreiff Patterson, tiring the second lawman out after only his first year of duty. The newest sheriff, James Grahm, would prove to be a bit more stubborn than his peers. Grahm believed the rumors to be true, but also recognized the failures of the sheriffs before him. Knowing Fennec was a witty adversary, he turned to the freshly established Pinkerton Agency to assist him in the investigations. At that time many of the agents had already passed the sheriff's tales off as little more than ghost stories and superstitious banter, and after a month had gone by without any solid evidence being uncovered to back the town's rumors, the Pennsylvania Pinkerton operation decided to recall the town's party. Their departure left sheriff Grahm and his reputation in the dust. It was another win for Fennec and the town's supernaturals, however it would be very short lived.
In the summer of 1860, the Allegheny Inn burned to the ground in the middle of the day. Grahm and his officers investigated the "accident" and claimed it was simply an unfortunate act of God. Fennec was quick to refute the claim, arguing that Grahm surely had more to do with the incident than God did. The public dispute turned physical, and the sheriff's lackies jumped in to overpower Fennec. They brandished him a heathenous outlaw, and promptly ran him out of town.
With nothing to his name and nowhere to go, Fennec had no choice but to return to his family's old way of life. He wandered the outskirts of the Appalachians, exchanging his foraged goods and camp services with travelers. It brought in just enough money to keep him alive, but Fennec wanted more than mere survival. He started saving up, keeping portions of his meager earnings tucked away in hidden caches along his trade routes. By 1905 he'd accumulated enough money between the caches to open a small rest stop further up in northern Pennsylvania. It wasn't much, but Fennec was optimistic. In a few years time his mother's recipes would become something of a staple for locals and newcomers alike, and grow the business into the bones of a bustling new enterprise: Fennec's Confectionary. Only a handful of years later Fennec would meet a young Earth elemental named Ruth, and the pair birthed their only son Jack in 1918. Jack took to working in the town's mines while Fennec and Ruth lived out the rest of their days happily serving the confectionary until Ruth's passing in 1967. Following his mother's death, Jack left the mining industry and started working alongside his father. Fennec passed away in 1991, just a year after Jack married a female familiar named Selene.
Jack and Selene struggled to conceive a child for years until their miraculous pregnancy finally came. On October 4th, 1995, little Piper Allegheny was born. Not much is publicly known about the Allegheny family after this, though it's said Jack and Selene had some sort of falling out to the point where she decided to up and leave her husband and daughter overnight. Piper completed highschool and moved out of state briefly to study business management at the University of Virginia. After graduating she promptly took over Fennec's, and only a few months into officially owning the business Piper relocated to the new supernatural safe haven in Saintes, Louisiana.

Wednesday
Busy split day with the morning focused on getting our 4 new podacarpus trees in the ground - designed to hide the neighbors house and our crappy fence - they already look amazing.
Afternoon spent in the city, a haircut, a snack at a cute cafe, a climb up to coit tower and down again via the Filbert and Greenwich steps, a drink along the bay and then a studio visit to Whipsaw with Harry.

Day 1:
Dear Diary,
I woke up this morning to the sounds of a scuffle happening in the lobby below; apparently, someone had been hiding from the constables in this hotel and got discovered. No matter, it served as the perfect alarm.
I set out into the city to find a place of work. I quickly located the nearest library — The Society Library — and inquired as to if they might hire me. The head librarian, a thin older man by the name of Filberte Ward, said they might, if I was qualified. So, of course, I showed him my letters of recommendation. He raised an eyebrow at me and asked, "You studied at The University of Vienna?"
I replied, "Yes." Then, he said, "You don't look Viennese." I, of course, replied, "Indeed. I am Providencian by birth." And then he asked, "If you're Providencian, then why did you study at The University of Vienna?" So then I said, "Because my father studied there." Of course, then he asked why my father studied there, and I started to grow tired of this impromptu interrogation. I'm not sure why, but the librarian seemed particularly distrustful of me, or perhaps he was just paranoid in general.
Anyhow, I didn't find work there, so I searched around for positions at other libraries, but none of them were hiring. I spent the whole day searching, so I ended up simply returning to The Fleur-de-lis for a drink and some conversation. I ended up speaking with another patron by the name of William Francis Folger, who informed me that his older brother, Benjamin Francis Folger, owned a printing shop and could use a new press operator. I suppose it's better than a factory; I'll have to visit him tomorrow.
Well, here's to one more night in this hotel, and one step closer to an apartment. Good night.
Signed, Marcus Reuben Alexander

Discovering Relaxation and Creativity, The Benefits of Oil Painting

Oil painting is a beautiful and long-lasting art form that has been loved by artists and collectors for hundreds of years. It started in the 15th century and uses a mix of colored pigments and oils like linseed or walnut oil. Picture an artist slowly moving a brush, blending colors that become richer and deeper with each layer. Every painting tells a story through light, shadow, and color. Whether you're learning to paint or just enjoy looking at art, oil painting is a powerful way to show emotions and capture the beauty of life. Its ability to create deep, emotional artwork makes it important in the art world.
Oil Painting Made Simple: A Step-by-Step Guide
Oil painting can seem tricky at first, but with the right steps, anyone can learn to create beautiful art.
Gather Your Supplies Before you begin, you'll need some basic tools:
Oil paints (a beginner set will do) Brushes (in different sizes) Canvas or canvas board Palette for mixing colors Linseed oil (to thin the paint) Turpentine or paint thinner (for cleaning brushes) Palette knife (optional for mixing or applying paint)
Prepare the Canvas
Many artists start by applying a base color (called a ground) to the canvas. Use thinned paint to cover the entire canvas in a light color, such as a soft gray or yellow. This helps the colors you paint stand out and blend well.
Sketch Your Idea
Lightly sketch your subject or idea onto the canvas with a pencil or thin brush and paint. It doesn’t have to be perfect—just a basic outline to guide you as you paint.
Start with the Background
Begin by painting the background. Use broad strokes and a larger brush for this step. This helps to define the space your subject will sit in and makes the foreground pop.
Build Layers of Color
Oil paints dry slowly, so you can blend colors right on the canvas. Start with thin layers (you can add linseed oil to make the paint thinner) and build up thicker layers as you go. This is known as the fat over lean rule—thinner paint underneath, thicker paint on top.
Let It Dry
Oil paintings take time to dry—sometimes weeks! Leave your painting in a safe place where it won’t be touched or smudged.
Clean Your Brushes
After you’re done painting, clean your brushes with turpentine or paint thinner, then wash them with soap and water. This keeps them in good shape for your next painting

The Art of Blending Colors in Oil Painting
Blending colors in oil painting is one of the most exciting techniques an artist can master. It allows you to create smooth transitions, lifelike textures, and depth in your work. The slow-drying nature of oil paints gives you plenty of time to mix and blend colors directly on the canvas, making it a perfect medium for creating realistic effects. Here’s how you can master the art of blending:
Start with a Limited Palette
To make blending easier, start with a limited palette of primary colors. Using just a few shades, like red, yellow, blue, white, and black, teaches you how to create a wide range of tones by mixing. This approach helps you better understand how colors work together.
Use the Right Tools
Your choice of brushes plays a big role in blending. Soft brushes, like filberts and flat brushes, are great for smoothing out colors and blending edges. You can also use a palette knife for a rougher, textured blend or to mix colors on your palette before applying them to the canvas.
Work with Wet Paint
One of the best things about oil paint is that it stays wet for a long time, allowing you to blend colors smoothly. Apply the paint in layers while it's still wet—this technique is called wet-on-wet painting. Lightly brush over where two colors meet to create a seamless transition between them.
Create Gradients
To blend colors gradually, place two colors next to each other on the canvas. Then, use a clean, soft brush to gently move back and forth between the two colors, blending them together. Start at the lighter color and slowly pull it into the darker one, making the transition as smooth as possible.
Layering for Depth
If you want to add depth to your painting, try blending by building up layers of color. Start with a thin, light base, then slowly add darker tones or highlights on top. Gently blend the edges of these new layers into the base color, creating depth and dimension.
Blending with a Palette Knife
For more texture in your blends, you can use a palette knife. Scrape the paint across the canvas, then gently drag the knife back and forth to blend the colors. This creates a textured, yet blended look, adding an extra layer of interest to your painting.
Be Patient
Blending in oil painting takes time and practice. Since oil paint dries slowly, you can keep working on your blends over several days, adjusting and refining them until they’re just right.
Practice and Experiment
Blending is a skill that improves with practice. Experiment with different brush strokes, techniques, and color combinations to see what works best for you. Over time, you’ll develop your own style of blending that brings your oil paintings to life.

Finding Art Inspiration
Every artist, whether beginner or experienced, goes through times when inspiration feels hard to find. But inspiration is everywhere—you just have to know where to look! Here are some simple ways to spark your creativity and find inspiration for your next piece of art:
Nature’s Beauty
One of the best places to find inspiration is in nature. Take a walk in a park, go to the beach, or explore a forest. The colors, patterns, and shapes in the natural world—like the soft curves of a leaf or the bright hues of a sunset—can inspire new ideas and help you see things from a fresh perspective.
Everyday Life
Inspiration doesn’t have to come from grand places; it can be found in everyday life. The simple moments—like a cup of coffee in the morning, the way sunlight hits a window, or a crowded street—can become the subject of your next piece. By observing the world around you with fresh eyes, you’ll notice beauty in even the most routine things.
Art Museums and Galleries
Visiting museums or art galleries is a great way to draw inspiration from both classic and contemporary works. Studying the styles, techniques, and colors of other artists can ignite new ideas. You don’t have to copy their work, but you can explore what moves you and try out similar methods in your own art.
Travel and New Experiences
If you can, travel to new places, even if it’s just to a nearby town or neighborhood you’ve never explored. New environments, cultures, and people can open your mind to different perspectives. The architecture of a new city, the colors of foreign markets, or the people you meet along the way can all inspire unique and meaningful artwork.
Books, Movies, and Music
Art is not limited to visual forms. Books, movies, and music can also stir your imagination. A story in a book, the emotion in a piece of music, or the cinematography in a film can evoke feelings or ideas you want to express through painting or drawing.
Memories and Emotions
Your personal experiences and emotions are powerful sources of inspiration. Reflect on your past, your dreams, or things that are important to you. The feelings that come from these reflections—joy, sadness, nostalgia—can be translated into art. This adds a personal and meaningful touch to your work.
Experiment with New Techniques
Trying new techniques or materials can lead to unexpected inspiration. If you usually paint with oils, try watercolors or pastels. Experimenting with mixed media, collage, or digital tools can break you out of a creative rut and inspire fresh ideas.
